Blažek <bibl corresp="#blazek1998" ana="#omit-author">1998</bibl> suggests <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*h₂oḱtoh₁(w)</mentioned>, characterizing it as dual form of <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">o</mentioned>-stem <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*h₂oḱto-</mentioned>, ultimately from root <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_ine-x-proto_h2ek"><ref target="#cog_ine-x-proto_h2ek">*h₂eḱ-</ref></mentioned>, meaning ‘a set of points (of one hand)‘ = ‘fingers (without thumb)’.
