The neuter <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*-yo-</mentioned> formation may originally have been a substantivized relational adjective, <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_ine-x-proto_h3orbh_yo"><ref target="#cog_ine-x-proto_h3orbh_yo">*h₃orbʰ-yo-</ref></mentioned> &gt; <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_ine-x-proto_h3orbh_yo_m"><ref target="#cog_ine-x-proto_h3orbh_yo_m">*h₃orbʰ-yo-m</ref></mentioned>. Cognate with Proto-Celtic <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_cel-x-proto_orbyom"><ref target="#cog_cel-x-proto_orbyom">*orbyom</ref></mentioned> &gt; Old Irish <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_sga_orbae"><ref target="#cog_sga_orbae">orbae</ref></mentioned>. The identical Celtic and Germanic formation is a Celto-Germanic morphological isogloss; shared dialectal Indo-European inheritance or innovation is possible, although early contact or borrowing cannot be excluded.
