Kloekhorst <bibl corresp="#kloekhorst2008" n="300–301, 312–314" ana="#omit-author">2008: 300–301, 312–314</bibl> proposes that PIE <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_ine-x-proto_h2erh3"><ref target="#cog_ine-x-proto_h2erh3">*h₂erh₃-</ref></mentioned> originally meant ‘crush’, reflected in Hittite <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_hit_harra_harr"><ref target="#cog_hit_harra_harr">ḫarra-/ḫarr-</ref></mentioned>, with ‘plow’ developing only after the Anatolian branch had split off. Schürr <bibl corresp="#schurr2023" n="106–109" ana="#omit-author">2023: 106–109</bibl> objects that <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">ḫarra-</mentioned> is not attested with regard to working soil and points instead to Hittite <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_hit_hars"><ref target="#cog_hit_hars">ḫārš-</ref></mentioned>, attested as <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_hit_har_as_zi_harszi"><ref target="#cog_hit_har_as_zi_harszi">𒄯𒀸𒍣</ref></mentioned>, which may be an <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">s</mentioned>-extended formation of <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_ine-x-proto_h2erh3"><ref target="#cog_ine-x-proto_h2erh3">*h₂erh₃-</ref></mentioned>; together with the broad distribution of the ‘plow’ family, especially the Tocharian evidence, this supports reconstructing ‘plow’ already for PIE.</seg>

The Strong class 7 classification is based on a single attested OHG attestation, iarun (‘they plowed’), though this could be an OHG innovation.
