Pronk proposes that the Germanic adjective directly continues <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*h₂er-u-o-</mentioned> and cautions against treating Avestan <mentioned xml:lang="ave" target="#cog_ave_auruuant"><ref target="#cog_ave_auruuant">𐬀𐬎𐬭𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬧𐬙</ref></mentioned> and  <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_ave_auruua"><ref target="#cog_ave_auruua">𐬀𐬎𐬭𐬎𐬎𐬀</ref></mentioned> as secure cognates: the Iranian words may instead be inner-Indo-Iranian derivatives of <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_ine-x-proto_h1er"><ref target="#cog_ine-x-proto_h1er">*h₁er-</ref></mentioned> or <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_ine-x-proto_h3er"><ref target="#cog_ine-x-proto_h3er">*h₃er-</ref></mentioned>.
