Compare Old Norse <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_non_audmundr"><ref target="#cog_non_audmundr">Auðmundr</ref></mentioned> and Old English <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_ang_eadmund"><ref target="#cog_ang_eadmund">Ēadmund</ref></mentioned>. The compound may originally have conveyed approximately ‘protector of wealth’, although dithematic Germanic personal names need not retain a transparent compositional meaning <bibl corresp="#nedoma2018" n="1586">Nedoma 2018: 1586</bibl>.</seg>
