The nasal may represent an inherited singulative formation associated with paired body parts <bibl corresp="#pronk2015" n="331, 340–41">Pronk 2015: 331, 340–41</bibl>, though Lühr alternatively allows a simple <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">n</mentioned>-extension or metanalysis of a locative in <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">-en</mentioned>.
