            <seg type="p">From Proto-Indo-European <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_ine-x-proto_ko_s"><ref target="#cog_ine-x-proto_ko_s">*-ko-s</ref></mentioned>, an adjectival suffix forming words meaning ‘having, characterized by, pertaining to’. The productive Proto-Germanic form <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*-gaz</mentioned> reflects the suffix-accented form <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*-kó-s</mentioned>. In this accentual type, the *k &gt; <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*g</mentioned> by Verner’s Law, because the syllable before <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*k</mentioned> was not accented <bibl corresp="#kluge1899" n="96–100">Kluge 1899: 96–100</bibl> <bibl corresp="#ringe2017" n="326">Ringe 2017: 326</bibl>.</seg>
            <seg type="p">A small number of Gothic adjectives preserve a non-Verner form <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*-haz</mentioned>, from forms in which the syllable before <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*k</mentioned> was accented. Compare Gothic adjectives ending in <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_got_ahs"><ref target="#cog_got_ahs">-𐌰𐌷𐍃</ref></mentioned>: <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_got_stainahs"><ref target="#cog_got_stainahs">𐍃𐍄𐌰𐌹𐌽𐌰𐌷𐍃</ref></mentioned>, <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_got_waurdahs"><ref target="#cog_got_waurdahs">𐍅𐌰𐌿𐍂𐌳𐌰𐌷𐍃</ref></mentioned>, and <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_got_unbarnahs"><ref target="#cog_got_unbarnahs">𐌿𐌽𐌱𐌰𐍂𐌽𐌰𐌷𐍃</ref></mentioned>. These show that PGmc originally had both <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*-(V)haz</mentioned> and <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*-(V)gaz</mentioned>, but the voiced form <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*-(V)gaz</mentioned> became the normal productive suffix via analogical leveling <bibl corresp="#kluge1899" n="96–100">Kluge 1899: 96–100</bibl>.</seg>
