Ringe <bibl corresp="#ringe2017" n="229–30" ana="#omit-author">2017: 229–30</bibl> treats the problem cautiously: the forms can be explained from <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*-lip-</mentioned>, the zero grade of Proto-Indo-European <mentioned xml:lang="ine-x-proto" target="#cog_ine-x-proto_leyp"><ref target="#cog_ine-x-proto_leyp">*leyp-</ref></mentioned>, which would connect the element with Proto-Germanic <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#pgmc_libana"><ref target="#pgmc_libana">*lībaną</ref></mentioned>; however, he notes that the Baltic parallels, Lithuanian <mentioned xml:lang="lit" target="#cog_lit_vienuolika"><ref target="#cog_lit_vienuolika">vienúolika</ref></mentioned>and <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_lit_dvylika"><ref target="#cog_lit_dvylika">dvýlika</ref></mentioned>, point instead to <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*-likʷ-</mentioned>, from PIE <mentioned xml:lang="ine-x-proto" target="#cog_ine-x-proto_leykw"><ref target="#cog_ine-x-proto_leykw">*leykʷ-</ref></mentioned>. Fulk <bibl corresp="#fulk2018" n="227–28" ana="#omit-author">2018: 227–28</bibl> adopts the latter analysis more directly, deriving PGmc <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*-lif-</mentioned> from <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">*-likʷ-</mentioned>and comparing the Lithuanian numeral type in <mentioned xml:lang="gmw-x-proto">-lika</mentioned>. </seg>
