PIE <mentioned xml:lang="ine-x-proto" target="#cog_ine-x-proto_tu"><ref target="#cog_ine-x-proto_tu">*-tu-</ref></mentioned> was one of the major verbal abstract/action-noun suffixes, but its reflexes often developed a more concrete or resultative sense than the similar feminine <mentioned xml:lang="" target="#cog_ine-x-proto_ti_s"><ref target="#cog_ine-x-proto_ti_s">*-ti-s</ref></mentioned> formations <bibl corresp="#krahe1969" n="151–52">Krahe &amp; Meid 1969: 151–52</bibl> <bibl corresp="#luraghi2009" n="5–6">Luraghi 2009: 5–6</bibl> <bibl corresp="#ringe2017" n="74">Ringe 2017: 74</bibl>.
