*fēgōną
Runic: ᚠᛖᚷᛟᚾᚨ Pronunciation: /ˈɸɛː.ɣɔː.nɑ̃/verb · Weak class 2
Meanings
- to polish
- to clean
- to sweep
Etymology
Uncertain. Possibly a secondary weak verb built directly on the past plural stem of strong verb *fehaną (‘to rejoice, be glad’), *fēg-, from Proto-Indo-European root *peḱ- (‘joyful, pretty’). Also related to *fēgijaną (‘to cleanse, polish; to decorate’) and fēhiz (‘satisfactory’).
