*sundī

Runic: ᛊᚢᚾᛞᛁ Pronunciation: /ˈsun.diː/

noun · feminine · ī/jō-stem

Meanings

something that should not be; sin, crime

Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *h₁s-n̥t-íh₂, the feminine form of *h₁sónts (‘being, true’), itself the present participle of *h₁es- (‘to be’), from which the present tense forms of Germanic *wesaną also descend. The sense would have originally implied a verdict of "truly guilty" against an accusation or charge.
