*turzdaz
Runic: ᛏᚢᚱᛉᛞᚨᛉ Pronunciation: /ˈturz.dɑz/noun · masculine · a-stem
Meanings
alternative reconstruction of *turdą (“excrement”)
Etymology
Seemingly from Proto-Indo-European *dr̥s-dʰh₁-os, from a root *ders- (‘to excrete’) + *dʰeh₁- (‘to do, put, place’). Compare Latvian dìrst (‘to shit’). The root *ders-, apparently only attested in Baltic and Germanic, may be an extension of the root *der- (‘to split, tear’); see also *teraną (‘to tear, snatch’).
