Meanings

a male given name

Etymology

From *ansuz + *-laibaz (‘descendant, heir’), a masculine personal-name element derived from the stem of *laibō (Peterson 2004: 37). The reconstruction is supported by Old English Ōslāf, Old Danish Aslef, and Old Norse Ásleifr; compare also independently attested early runic names in Ansu-, such as Ansugastiz and Ansugīslaz (Peterson 2004: 6).
