*būlō

Runic: ᛒᚢᛚᛟ Pronunciation: /ˈbuː.lɔː/

noun · feminine · ō-stem

Meanings

boil; sore

Etymology

From the zero-grade of an uncertain Proto-Indo-European root *bʰew- with a laryngeal extension and nominalizing -l- formation, reconstructed as pre-Germanic *bʰuH-l-eh₂. A variant *būlijō is obvious from certain Old English and Old High German reflexes. Related to *būlǭ.
