*glutōną
Runic: ᚷᛚᚢᛏᛟᚾᚨ Pronunciation: /ˈɣlu.tɔː.nɑ̃/verb · Weak class 2
Meanings
- to peer
- to stare; gawk
Etymology
Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *gʰln̥d-néh₂-ti and thus related to *glintaną (‘to shine’), *glantaz (‘bright’), from the root *gʰlend- (‘to shine’); the unusual formation may be due to dissimilation *gʰln̥d-néh₂- > *gʰl̥d-néh₂-. Perhaps ultimately from an even earlier root *gʰel- (‘to shine’).
