Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *gers-. Cognate with Latin garrio (‘to chatter’) and Lithuanian gar̃sas (‘sound’).
The expected form *kersaną is unattested, the current form with -z- arose by influence of the iterative *kurzōną.
