*aisōną
Runic: ᚨᛁᛊᛟᚾᚨ Pronunciation: /ˈɑi̯.sɔː.nɑ̃/verb · Weak class 2
Meanings
to rush, dash forward; move or drive violently
Etymology
From Early Germanic *aisōjanan, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁oysh₂-eh₂-yé/ó-, a denominative or factitive formation ultimately based on the o-grade of root *h₁eysh₂- (Kroonen 2013: 13–14). The same root is reflected in Avestan 𐬀𐬉𐬱𐬨𐬀 (aēšma), probably from *h₁oys-mo-, and Latin īra, from *h₁éysh₂-eh₂, whose emotional meanings developed from the notion of violent impulse or agitation; compare also Sanskrit एषयति (eṣáyati) (Cheung 2010: 159; Kroonen 2013: 13–14; Rix et al. 2001: 234).
