possessions, property; goods or wealth held by an owner

Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *h₂éyḱ-ti-s ~ *h₂iḱ-téy-s, a proterokinetic *-ti-stem from root *h₂eyḱ- (Kroonen 2013: 9; Ringe 2017: 197–98). The Proto-Germanic form reflects the generalized full-grade stem. Comparanda include Sanskrit ईशे (īśe) / ईष्टे (īṣṭe), beside ईश (īśá) (Mallory & Adams 1997: 270; Rix et al. 2001: 223; Watkins 2011: s.v. aik-). Related to *aiganą, *aigô, and*aigǭ.
