*aigô
Runic: ᚨᛁᚷᛟ Pronunciation: /ˈɑi̯.ɣɔːː/noun · masculine · an-stem
Meanings
owner, possessor; one who owns or has control over something
Etymology
From Proto-Germanic *aiganą + *-ô, originally ‘the owning one’. Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eyḱ-, especially the reduplicated stative/perfect formation behind Germanic *aiganą; compare the root with Sanskrit ईष्टे (īṣṭe), and Tocharian B aik- (Kroonen 2013: 8; Rix et al. 2001: 223; Mallory & Adams 1997: 270; Watkins 2011: s.v. aik-). Also related to *aigǭ.
